About NSTI Kanpur

National Skill Training Institute (NSTI), Kanpur is a prestigious institute under the Government of India, dedicated to meeting the training requirements of industries and institutions across the country. The institute is equipped with modern workshops, laboratories, an administrative block, audio-visual facilities, a library, trainee hostels, a dispensary, and residential quarters.

Historical Background

In response to rapid industrial expansion and technological advancements, the Government of India, Ministry of Labour, introduced the Advanced Vocational Training System (AVTS) in 1978 with support from UNDP and ILO. This initiative aimed to upgrade the skills and knowledge of existing workers to meet emerging industrial demands.

Consequently, the Central Training Institute (CTI) was upgraded and developed into the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI), enabling the delivery of advanced vocational and instructor training programs.

Technological Advancement

Since the 1980s, industries have increasingly adopted advanced technologies such as Computers, NC/CNC Machines, Electro-Hydraulic Systems, Electro-Pneumatic Controls, Robotics, and Microprocessor-based automation.

To address the growing demand for highly skilled technicians, NSTI Kanpur expanded its infrastructure and introduced specialized training programs in advanced skill areas including:

  • NC/CNC Technology
  • Electronics Maintenance Systems
  • Control Technology
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Industrial Automation

During 2000–2003, the institute further upgraded its facilities by introducing Hi-Tech CNC, PLC, and Control Technology training programs to align with modern industrial requirements.
